DAY 7 - Southerngals5x7

Hello!!

I can't believe its the last day of the challenge!!

What an amazing adventure this has been!!!!  A big shout out and thank you to Tiffany over at @sougherngals_designs on Instagram for coming up with such a fun challenge!!

Well, today tripped me up just a bit!!  I got a bit overambitious and decided to use water spray on my page, to get some flow and dripage on acrylic paint!  Hmmm, I will not lie, I panicked, and paused the timer to try and dry the page a bit.  Then felt guilty for cheating and started the timer up again.  LOLs!!

It all came together at the end and although Day7 ended up using a bit of overtime.

As with all previous days in the challenge, the process video is on YouTube.  Click HERE for a direct link.

DAY 5 - Southerngals5x7

Greetings creative earthlings!!

Day 5!!

I can see a bit of repetition going on, the same MO repeatedly.

At first I felt that I was perhaps not stretching myself adequately, and falling back on a tried and tested method for when I create.  After some reflection, I realised that isn't this the case with most things in life.

When working with limited time and limited supplies, why buck the system, stick with what you know works, and with what you love.

I love the way the paint applied with a palette knife has a certain unpredictability to it.  I love that the first layer of gesso applied breaks the page and starts an energy on the page.  I love the marks made by the graphite stick.  Hey, if I love it, then it's all good!

DAY 4 - Southerngals5x7

Hello speedy artists!!

Day 4!! Half way there!!  Well done for sticking in there!!

I have learnt that 5 minutes is either a long time, or not long at all!!  As I am watching the timer go down, I am sometimes surprised that only a minute and a half has passed, and sometimes I'm like"YIKES!!!! 3 minutes gone!!!"

As a result of this weird time warp situation, sometimes the results of a 5 minute page are less than fantastic, but the most important thing is that I have taken at least 5 minutes during the day to get some paints and marks down on paper, without the burden of thinking too much.

The freedom is liberating, and although I don't really struggle with perfectionism or inability just to let go and play in my art journal, I am learning that letting the media just speak to me is gratifying!!

I can't believe there are only 3 days left in this challenge!!

DAY 3 - Southerngals5x7

Oh yes!!

Day 3 and feeling amped!!!

This challenge has certainly made me step outside my comfort zone from time to time!!  I am using this challenge to try using colours I am not usually drawn to, and I find that being on a time limit allows me to not over think what I am doing.

I am loving learning that even 5 minutes is enough to be creative every day and flexing my creative muscles by having to be quick!

Don't forget to play along and use #southerngals5x7 to showcase your work on Instagram!

Southerngals5x7 Challenge

Hello all you fabulous creative humans!

The very lovely Tiffany over at @southergals_designs on Instagram has posted a fantastic creative challenge for us.

The rules are simple.
Create every day for for only 5 minutes for 7 days, starting on Sunday 29 August 2018, and ending on Saturday 04 August 2018.

I for one am super excited about this challenge.  I am not very good with challenges and end up petering out mid way through, usually because life gets in the way and I end up not being able to complete the required tasks.  BUT, being only 5 minutes for 7 days, I feel the is the kind of commitment I can confidently make.

I have prepared a few things for the challenge, as 5 minutes is not a lot of time!!

I have chosen to do this challenge in a Moleskine Pocket Sketchbook that I have had waiting on the sidelines for the perfect opportunity to debut itself.  I have prepared some faces by the lovely and talented @weelili_art on Instagram, as well as some fabulously witty quotes from Dyan Reavely's Dylusions stamps by ranger, called Laugh Til You Leak.

As for the other collage elements, I have set aside a page from a novel, a burlap tag, gel plate clean off prints, brown bag scraps, Tim Holts Tissue Wrap (Melange & Postale).

Along with the collage elements above, I will be limiting myself to a small selection of paints and tools.

  • Gesso - Liquitex Professional
  • UHU Glue stick
  • Palette knife #4
  • Pentel Pen-Touch Paint Pen 2.0mm (White)
  • OHTO Fudeball 1.5mm (Black)
  • Lyra Graphite stick (9B)
  • Sharpie China Marker (Black)
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Creative Hands - Flower Doily Stencil
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint
    • Quinacridone Violet
    • Primary Cyan
    • Cobalt Teal Blue
    • Yellow Green Light
    • Hansa Yellow Medium
    • Dairyide Yellow
    • Quinacridone Gold
    • Paynes Grey
  • DecoArt Metallics Acrylic Paint
    • Splendid Gold
    • Shimmering Silver
  • DecoArt Neons Acrylic Paint
    • Sizzling Pink

I am hoping there is enough inspiration in this little bundle to create something beautiful every day for 7 days.

If you would like to join along, tag your work with #southerngals5x7.

I will be posting the pages I create daily on YouTube (Josocrafty) and photos on my Instagram @josocrafty.

Happy creating talented earthlings!!

A Little Mixed Media

Hello awesome scrap people!!

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a Gelli Plate printing workshop at Creative Hands.  My daughter was attending a week long scrap camp, so while I was waiting for her to work her magic, I embarked on a mixed media project.

It was heaps of fun and I enjoyed getting my fingers all messy and enjoying the process of locating all the random places paint had found to take residence on my body. (Yes, there was paint on my elbow and behind my upper arm????)

This was the result of a 2 mornings in store, playing with a huge range of products ranging from tissue paper to texture paste.

I had so much fun, I decided to dedicate wall space to more of these little beauties.  Below is the result of finding a small canvas in our craft cupboard....

Hopefully it won't be too long before I get my mess on and create more mini memories.

Happy Scrapping!!!

Jo
